Driving behavior influenced by family, friends:
A new study
confirms that family and friends influence whether a driver speeds. Judy
Fleiter, from the Queensland University of Technology's (QUT) Accident
Research and Road Safety Centre, looked at the driving habits of more
than 300 people in south-east Queensland aged 16-79. She says there is a
distinct "social influence" on how people drive. The study results are
showing us are that people can also be influenced to not speed. So it
goes both ways in relation to that driving behavior and that seems
particularly relevant. While friends were more important in the results
of the study, family members were also a significant influence.
Kids keep online threats secret from parents
Schoolchildren are being "victimized, teased and mocked" on an internet
"spider web" of instant messaging and blogging kept secret from parents,
including instances of students exchanging insults, threats and explicit
pictures via a network of home computers. Police say they have
investigated and, in some cases, charged children for such
cyber-bullying crimes as stalking, harassment and menacing other
students, as well as child pornography. The reputations of children who
make a mistake can be trashed. Kids can be victimized, teased and mocked
for their boy or girl friends.
Criminal offences relating to the behavior of school children
online have definitely been reported to police and they have been
investigated," he said.
Breakthrough in Infant Care Now Available for Parents
With New Dunstan Baby Language DVD
After nearly a decade of research, Dunstan Baby has found that all
newborns use specific 'words' to express basic needs, such as hunger,
gas or tiredness. About Priscilla Dunstan This is a remarkable story of
an Australian woman who used her unique gift and a mother's intuition to
develop a world first the universal language of babies. Born with an
eidetic memory - similar to a photographic memory - Priscilla
demonstrated an extraordinary connection to sound and its patterns.
Initially, Priscilla's talent allowed her to spend years touring as an
accomplished concert violinist. Later, she studied the world of opera
and further developed her appreciation of sound as produced by the human
voice. It was when Priscilla gave birth to her son Tomas, that the true
significance of her gift emerged. She was able to recognize patterns in
her son's cries and identify the specific needs associated with them.
After more than eight years of research and independent testing, this
one mother's intuition has developed into the realization of a universal
baby language the Dunstan Baby Language.

Anxiety grows around teen net use
A real and dramatic difference is emerging in how teenagers
handle personal relationships compared to adults in their late 20s,
transforming the social lives of teens and often bewildering their
elders.
For the younger crowd, online time is steadily supplanting personal
contact with friends. A recent Nielson/NetRatings study documented a 24
percent rise in Web use in 2005 to an average 26 hours each month. For
many, the Web is a way to reach out and bond with people with diverse
backgrounds from innumerable places with minimal effort. The ease with
which teens now access their social communities is striking. Instant
messaging has replaced the telephone as the preferred mode to reach out
to friends, as it allows instant access on the cheap. Parents can't fret
over astronomical phone bills or minutes used, and as a result they are
largely kept in the dark regarding a significant portion of their
child's social life.
